The Market

The internet has grown into the largest marketplace is the world, offering direct access to nearly 2bn people, which represent around 28.7% of the total world population. Statistics show that the UK online retail market is continuing to expand, with IMRG finding that UK online shoppers spent an estimated £4.4bn during June 2010; this compares to an estimated £3.7bn spent online in the same month last year. Online sales for the whole of 2010 are predicted to reach £56bn.

According to a survey run by eCommera of 2000 people, they found that 42.6% of UK consumers buy something online at least once a week, and the average online spend per shopper is £71 per month.

IMRG and Capgemini predict that the UK online retail market will grow by approximately 110% in the next decade, reaching £123bn by 2020.
